Abstract

The Jadid movement played a pivotal role in the intellectual, educational, and social transformation of Central Asia during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Among its most significant contributions was the promotion of women's education as a foundation for family development, social progress, and national modernization. This literature review synthesizes existing scholarship on the perspectives of prominent Jadid thinkers, including Abdurauf Fitrat, Mahmudhoja Behbudi, Abdullah Avloni, Qori Rahmatullah Vozeh, and Abdulhamid Cholpon, regarding women's education, family values, and social reform. The review examines historical, philosophical, and educational studies to identify major themes, scholarly debates, and emerging trends in the literature. The findings indicate that Jadid intellectuals consistently regarded educated women as essential contributors to moral development, family stability, and the advancement of society. While individual reformers differed in their approaches and emphasis, they shared the common objective of integrating Islamic ethical principles with modern educational practices to promote social renewal. The review also identifies significant research gaps, including the limited availability of comparative studies, interdisciplinary analyses, and systematic literature reviews that examine the collective contributions of Jadid thinkers to gender and educational studies. The article concludes that the educational philosophy of the Jadid movement continues to provide valuable insights for contemporary discussions on women's empowerment, educational reform, and sustainable social development in Central Asia and the broader Muslim world. Future research should adopt interdisciplinary and comparative approaches to further explore the enduring relevance of Jadid intellectual heritage.
